Course 7 - Utsunomiya,                                     A monument of a Quarry

This course is recommended on your way to Nikko on the previous day or on your way back to Tokyo on the next day.  

Location & Outline

Utsunomiya city is the biggest city of the north Kanko District. It is known as the town of stones which were used as material for the old Imperial Hotel Building, the town of Gyoza(dumpling), the town of Jazz, and the town of bicycle. And It prospered as the gateway to Nikko National Park, and now the gateway to the World Heritage site.

We produce two sightseeing tours. One is for Midtown of Utsunomiya and the other is for Oya area - stone mining business area. This is the information for Oya Area.

  3. Oya-ji Temple
  4. Oya Park
  5. Matsugamine Church (Made of Oya stones) - In the Midtown of Utsunomiya
  6. Sasara Sake tasting Bar (Japanese Sake Tasting) - In the Midtown of Utsunomiya

How to get there 

Take the JR Tohoku Shinkansen (Yamabiko 127) from Tokyo (at 8:08), or Ueno (8:14) to Utsunomiya. It arrives the Utsunomiya station at   9:01.  We will meet at the ticket gate or in front of the information center.
